What is it?
·         A dancing marathon to raise money for the Be the Match Foundation - a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an opportunity for people suffering from Leukemia to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need.
·         The event is an opportunity to dance to your heart's content, relax with friends, visit New York City in the spring, go shopping, and at the same time raise money for a very worthy cause.

When is it?
·         Saturday, April 24th, 2010, continuously from 12:00noon to 10:00PM.

Where is it?
·         Holy Cross School
·         332 W. 43 Street, (between 8th & 9th Avenues), New York City.

How does it work?
·         All dancers can participate - dance as many or as few dances as you wish and come and go as you wish during the day and evening.  Dancing will begin at 12noon and end at 10:00PM.
·         In the weeks before the Dance-a-thon dancers ask friends/family/acquaintances to sponsor them.  The sponsor form is on the back of the flyer.  Sponsors agree to donate a certain amount for every dance the dancer completes.  The amount can be as small (10cents) or as large as the individual sponsor chooses.  So that sponsors are not offering an unlimited amount of money they can also choose to indicate their maximum contribution on the sponsor form.
·         After the event is over you will receive a certificate indicating how many dances you completed, and you will then collect the money from your individual sponsors.  Checks are to be made out to the Be the Match Foundation and are tax deductable.
·         The New York Branch will coordinate the collection of the checks from individual dancers and the presentation to the Be the Match Foundation.
·         To encourage maximum participation there will be a prize for the dancer that dances the most dances, and a prize for the dancer who raises the most money.
·         The programme for the day will include old favourites, Pawling programme, Rerr Terr programme etc. and cribs are available on the website and hard copies at the Branch from mid-January onwards.
·         All dances will be walked once and briefed once.  Requests will also be accommodated if sufficient (one set) people are interested.  All dancing will be to recorded music.
·         There will be refreshments available but everyone please bring a contribution for the food table.

What is needed?
·         Everyone - dancers and teachers to spread the word, collect as many sponsors as possible and take part on the day.
·         On the day volunteers will be needed to oversee the food table and the registration table.  Teachers will be asked to walk and brief dances.
More details from Mary Zagami and Sue Ronald.  See flyer for contact information.
