 Mission Statement

The New York Branch of the RSCDS is a 501(c)(3) cultural and educational organization whose mission is to support Scottish Country Dance and to encourage greater participation in Scottish Country Dance in the New York metro area.

We accomplish this mission through a number of means:
The Branch offers weekly basic and intermediate/advanced classes.  The basic class aims to teach new dancers the basic steps and movements of Scottish Country Dancing and to progress through the formations that make up a large variety of dances.  The Intermediate/Advanced class focuses on a well-known repertoire of dances as well as new dances.  In the Intermediate/Advanced classes more challenging formations and dances are taught for the benefit of more experienced members of the class and all dances are taught with attention to technique and improved footwork.

The Branch sponsors special workshops and weekends which offer the chance to study with guest teachers from around the world.

The Branch sponsors special events which provide dancers and non-dancers the opportunity to view Scottish Country Dance performances and to learn about Scottish history and culture.
